The primary aim of the textbook, titled “Electrical Power System Analysis [Vol. I]” is to offer comprehensive coverage of the entire spectrum of Power System Analysis. This volume of textbook extensively covers the Power System Analysis course of almost of all the Indian Technical Universities and some International Universities as well. This volume of textbook particularly well suited for undergraduate, post-graduate and Ph.D. students of Electrical Engineering disciplines as well as diploma students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. It also caters to GATE/IES/IAS/PSU aspirants and practicing engineers. This textbook is written in very simple language to facilitate easy comprehension for students at all levels. This volume of textbook (spanning over 6 chapters) is structured to provide an in-depthunderstanding of all concepts with appropriate pedagogy. In Chapter 1 (titled, Elementary Concepts and Definitions), the focus is on laying the foundation for understanding electrical systems. This chapter begins with a set of learning objectives to guide the reader through the key concepts followed by an exploration of single-subscript and doublesubscript notations. This chapter covers per unit system, single line, impedance and reactance diagramsand providing insights into their advantages, disadvantages and applications. It discusses the properties of impedance and admittance matrices and emphasizing their significance in short circuit and load flow calculations. Physical properties like permittivity and permeability are examined followed by a detailed analysis of terms related to AC systems. This chapter includes in-depth analysis of AC power, singlephase and three-phase circuits, star-delta conversions, percentage reactance, short circuit capacity, symmetrical component analysis, power angle curves, synchronizing power, swing equations, equal area criteria and load flow methods. This chapter concludes with considerations on economic load dispatch and highlights the limitations of specific load flow methods in radial distribution systems. Chapter 2 (titled, Fundamentals of Power Systems) is written to provide a comprehensive understating of essential concepts in power systems. This chapter begins with clearly defined learning objectives and introduces the interconnections of electrical power grids and exploring reasons, advantages, disadvantages and applications. This chapter details the structure of power systems covering generation stations, transmission and distribution components. Various schemes of electrical power transmission including DC and AC systems are discussed alongside their advantages, disadvantages and applications. The preference for AC over DC transmission is addressed and different types of electrical power transmission (such as overhead and underground systems) are explored. This chapter examines economic considerations for efficient power transmission, requirements for satisfactory transmission and the impact of variable loads on power stations. Important curves and factors related to power transmission including load curves and demand factors are discussed. This chapter concludes by providing details on the main components of overhead transmission systems, including conductor materials, overhead line conductors, supports and insulators. In Chapter 3 (titled, Transmission Line Parameters), the focus is on understanding the crucial parameters of overhead transmission line. This chapter begins with clearly outlined learning objectives and introduces the significance of calculating overhead line resistance, inductance and capacitance. It covers the parameters individually, starting with resistance and addressing the phenomenon of AC resistance being greater than DC resistance in overhead lines. This chapter extensively covers the calculations of inductance for various configurations of single-phase and three-phase overhead lines including considerations for composite conductors and transpositions. In addition, it also introduces the fundamental concepts and calculations of capacitance for different overhead line configurations without considering the effect of earth. In subsequent sections, the impact of earth on capacitance calculations
