Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the India AI Impact Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, positioning artificial intelligence (AI) as a critical engine for India’s development and a catalyst for global innovation.
Addressing innovators, researchers and technology enthusiasts, the Prime Minister said India’s expanding AI ecosystem reflects the country’s growing technological confidence and its ability to develop solutions that can benefit both domestic and international communities. He added that India’s talent and innovation capacity would play a key role in shaping responsible, inclusive and impactful AI systems.
“Inaugurated the India AI Impact Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam. Being here among innovators, researchers and tech enthusiasts gives a glimpse of the extraordinary potential of AI, Indian talent and innovation,” Modi said in a post on X. “Together, we will shape solutions not just for India but for the world.”
The expo is part of the broader India AI Impact Summit 2026, which is being billed as one of the world’s largest gatherings focused on artificial intelligence. The summit aims to position India as a global hub for AI research, policy dialogue and technology deployment, bringing together policymakers, global CEOs, scientists, startups, and academic institutions.
According to official announcements, the summit is expected to see participation from nearly 100 countries, including more than 15 heads of state and government, alongside 100+ global industry leaders. The discussions focus on practical applications of AI across healthcare, agriculture, climate change, governance, education, and infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on ethical use, inclusivity and sustainability .
The government has said the summit reflects India’s expanding five-layer AI ecosystem, spanning applications, sovereign AI models, computing infrastructure, energy systems and talent development.
Officials highlighted that Indian companies and research institutions have already built over 200 sector-specific AI models, while large-scale investments exceeding $70 billion are underway in AI infrastructure. Skilling programmes have also trained more than 500,000 students, creating a growing national talent pipeline .
The India AI Impact platform aims to accelerate the use of AI for social good, economic growth and environmental sustainability, under the guiding framework of “People, Planet and Progress.” Policymakers say the event will help shape international collaboration, standard-setting and deployment strategies in emerging technologies .
