Key Points
- Ayush portals to be available in all 22 scheduled Indian languages via AI translation
- BHASHINI integration will enable voice-enabled healthcare services in regional languages
- Partnership aims to develop domain-specific terminology for traditional medicine systems
The Ministry of Ayush signed an agreement with the Digital India BHASHINI Division on Thursday to integrate AI-powered language translation across its digital platforms, aiming to make traditional medicine services accessible in all 22 scheduled Indian languages.
BHASHINI — India’s national language technology platform that provides AI-driven transcription and translation services — will be integrated with Ayush Grid portals, mobile applications and AI tools.
The Ayush Grid is the ministry’s digital infrastructure connecting healthcare delivery, research, drug administration and capacity building for traditional medicine systems including Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Yoga, Naturopathy, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy.
The partnership, titled BHASHINI Rajyam, will also develop domain-specific multilingual terminology for traditional medicine and build healthcare-focused AI language models.
What the Agreement Covers
Under the memorandum of understanding, BHASHINI’s translation and voice recognition technology will be deployed across Ayush digital services. Two portals — the Yoga Portal and the Ayush Grid master portal MAISP — have already integrated an earlier version of the BHASHINI plugin and received user feedback.
The collaboration will focus on strengthening Ayush language datasets and creating contextual AI models for healthcare communication in regional languages.
“Ayush systems of medicine carry immense civilisational knowledge and cultural depth. Ensuring that this knowledge becomes accessible in every Indian language is essential for inclusive healthcare delivery,” said Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, secretary, Ministry of Ayush.
Kotecha added that the partnership would help develop robust domain-specific terminologies and AI systems that support citizens across linguistic boundaries.

Multilingual Healthcare Access
Kavita Jain, joint secretary at the Ministry of Ayush, pointed to BHASHINI’s doctor-patient interaction systems that can generate prescriptions as an example of the technology’s potential.
“The multilingual AI solutions demonstrated by BHASHINI reflect the transformative potential of technology in strengthening healthcare accessibility,” Jain said.
Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India BHASHINI Division under MeitY, said the collaboration aimed to build voice-enabled healthcare systems capable of supporting citizens in their preferred languages.
“Language-inclusive AI systems are critical for ensuring equitable access to digital public services,” Nag said.
The MoU was signed by Subodh Kumar, director at the Ministry of Ayush, and Nag on behalf of BHASHINI.
