What the Aadhaar App offers

Users can enable or disable biometric authentication through a single-tap lock and unlock feature. When biometrics are locked, no entity can authenticate the user’s identity using their fingerprint or iris data, providing protection against potential misuse at authentication points.
The app also maintains a complete authentication history, showing users every instance where their Aadhaar was used for verification. This addresses a longstanding transparency concern among Aadhaar holders who previously had limited visibility into how their identity credentials were being accessed.
Offline verification for everyday use
A significant feature is QR-based identity sharing, which allows users to verify their identity without an internet connection. Hotels, hospitals and event venues can scan a QR code from the app to confirm a visitor’s identity through what UIDAI terms Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) integration.
The app supports age verification for services with age restrictions, visitor management systems at corporate and residential premises, and identity checks for gig economy workers and service partners. Users can also generate editable digital contact cards to replace physical visiting cards.
The Aadhaar App is available on both Android and Apple iOS platforms. UIDAI has positioned it as a privacy-focused alternative to carrying physical Aadhaar documents, with all data stored locally on the user’s device rather than on external servers.
